Healing Is A Journey - Not Always A Linear One

Major life events have happened over a period of three years. As one would expect with such events a few things took a back seat - one of them being my health.

I wouldn't say that I'm a fitness guru but I've always had an affinity toward living a healthy lifestyle (believe that's a trait that runs in my family). Now I'm moving towards getting back on track and expecting my entries to keep me (or is it make me or is it hold me) accountable.

This week has been a roller coaster. With exactly one green drink in my week I can't say I excelled at keeping on track with my new eating habits. A quick snapshot of actual meals this week: Breakfast - either muesli or green juice (had a bagel one day this week). Lunch - home cooked meals - soups, veggie based meals (hungryroot) and today pasta (like flour pasta) with chick peas and broccoli. Dinners-primarily veggies (next week will have better daily food diary). T

This doesn't sound bad right except I left out the snacks. Popcorn of all flavors are in the office and with the holidays even more deliciousness will flow into the office's kitchen - the temptation is real (grazing like a cow that's what I'm doing)!

In terms of exercise. Yoga practice has been pretty consistent even if I'm only able to squeeze in 15 minutes in the morning (thanks Yoga with Adriene). I did this ten minute abs workout by OFFICIALTHENX and thought I died (abs are still recovering - that's how you know it works). Another really helpful exercise has been indoor walking with Leslie Sansone. When I first saw the video I thought it was a joke. 15 minutes in I was warm, 30 minutes in I was burning hot, 45 minutes came around I thanked God it was over. The next day I was sore - but a  good sore.

So there you have it - pretty much a summary of my week. Looking forward to sharing how my journey with you next week.

Palin's Fashion Cents?

As D-day draws near for the most anticipated election reporters scurry to report any dirt that: may or may not influence voters; or at the very least provide entertainment and/or water cooler discussions; or attract more readers for their newspapers (let’s face it since the invention of the iPod it seems people have just stopped reading altogether) - Sarah Palin does not disappoint. The first headline on AOL two days ago was Sarah Palin’s wardrobe bill that apparently was paid for by campaign’s finances (ultimately tax payers dollars?) – a whopping $150,000 (wish I was her at this point!). According to AOL Sarah Palin’s September shopping spree consisted of Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and not to exclude her little one a $295 stroller. We all can relate when we go on a job interview we want to look beyond what’s considered our best. Appearances are important for interviews especially one where you’re interviewing to become VP of one of the most powerful

Don't Pay Homage To Original Fashion Trendsetters?

As I sit here surrounded by Elle, InStyle, Vogue and W magazines – not to mention having Style, Fabsugar, and NYmag sites open on my desktop (just to name a few) searching for the latest trends in Hollywood that can seamlessly be incorporated into the average woman’s wardrobe (let’s be realistic everything that’s seen on the runway or in Hollywood is not something the average woman wants to wear or even practical for her to wear) I come across a critique of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s style showcased at the Emmy’s. Besides realizing that I missed one of the major fashion events - let’s be honest with ourselves no one cares who wins, maybe except the actors, but we the audience truly only care about what the actors wear – after all the primary function of the Emmy’s is to showcase the latest fashion trend. The Emmy’s are forgiving to those actors whom are not able to cut it as models, due to their height deficiency, by allowing them to be the center of attention in the fashion world for one

What Defines Feminism

The 2008 Presidential campaign has been one exciting event thus far. Neither party has been short on entertainment; however, I must say one party has been more entertaining than the other and that party is, the Republican Party. In today’s AM New York an article titled “Feminists: We fought for this?” featured living and dead past female Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates and feminists weighing in on Sarah Palin as the Republican VP pick. The discussion panel consisted of Shirley Chisholm, Geraldine Ferraro, Bella Abzug, Barbara Jordan Susan B. Anthony and Hillary Clinton (interesting women no one can argue). All of the women were either amused or dismayed at the Republican’s choice. Geraldine’s comment was the most hilarious. Chisholm asks Ferraro why she’s been quiet throughout the entire discussion. Ferraro replies, ‘She could have picked Dick Cheney. She could have picked Spiro Agnew, for Christsake. And yet she hadn’t chose any of them… she chose me.’ Most of t
